When the clock was first used in homes, it had much more of a functional nature to it. Sure, you could get a sense of what time it was from the daylight outside, but this wasn’t as effective for accurate time. Then, along came the handmade clock to hang on your wall. The original makers of these fine clocks took painstaking care to ensure that your timepiece would be around for quite some time. While their original intent was not to make them valuable as antiques, this is certainly one aspect that cannot be overlooked. Wall clocks have a wide range of values, they depend upon condition, brand, and features.
Some of the more collectible styles are the key-wound ones. You see, there was a time when wall clocks had to be wound up to keep time. Now, batteries or electrical power are able to keep much more accurate and precise time. If you are looking for something that is more of a decorative effect for your home, then the precision of the clock is not as great a factor. More often than not in today’s age, this is what people are after. In some ways, we long for those times when a wood wall clock could distinguish a space in our home.
