Emergencies that involve fire are handled by firefighters who administer first aid and rescue people. As stamina is a necessity in this job, people must observe physical fitness.

Medical emergency training is a basic requirement and is taught together with firefighting classes. Fire safety procedures awareness is taught to the firefighters who in turn organize and carry out training sessions to the public. An exam culminates the four year course and must be passed for one to graduate. It is acceptable to train as a firefighter through apprenticeship which is also recognized. Established firefighting departments will provide a good base for apprenticeship. Depending on the institution, this training could take five years after which employment is sought.
