Due to a long established reputation and its longstanding tradition as a hospitable tourist city, Alicante receives a lot of commercial and non-commercial traffic as people visit the city for recreation, business and family purposes. To cater to this demand, Alicante Spain has, overtime, developed a complex ecology and a diverse system to serve these constant travel needs of its visitors. To this end, the city has a comprehensive short and long distance tram and train service, an international airport of high repute, port and ship services and a commercial system for serving the intra-city travel needs of its visitors.
International flights come and go through Alicante’s international airport and with them bring a large influx of international visitors, while several of the stops are only small stop over or flight changing stops, most of them are actually tourist flights. The airport also serves Spain’s own domestic market and sees a very large exchange of domestic traffic, inbound towards Alicante, and take place regularly. Many low cost carriers like EasyJet and jet2 also operate within Alicante’s airport and serve the low budget market with regular international and local flights.
And while Alicante’s airport sees much of the international traffic, a sizeable portion of Alicante’s local visitors opt for train services and travel by the train network due to much cheaper costs and good comfort levels. Much of the domestic traffic that Alicante receives is through this railway network as many of its local tourists are from Madrid and Barcelona. The railway network also connects Alicante to Murcia by a small railway track.
For most of intercity travel, Alicante has a comprehensive tram system in place that provides its denizens with a quick and a cheap mode of transport. Alicante also has a complex and highly evolved car rental system to serve the tourist market for intra-city travel effectively, eliminating tram and train service usage by these people.
