When you are envisioning your outdoor patio space, the last thing you probably think of is looking at all that stuff you’d rather have hidden. You know, the stuff like those extra cushions, your garden stool, an extra bag of potting soil, etc. You get the point. One way to avoid this dilemma is to get an outdoor storage bench. More than just being storage for your items, they can also serve as very comfortable seating.
A storage bench is just someplace where you can add items that you don’t want to see in plain site, but would otherwise inconvenience you to do without them nearby. Hence, some smart outdoor enthusiast invents the outdoor version of the indoor storage bench. Likely, it was first used for storing linens and other keepsakes. This then morphed into being used in the outdoors and what you find in there is anything from small garden tools, to barbecue tools to pool and hot tub towels and accessories – oh, and of course some patio cushions.
Similar to a storage bench but without the storage aspect is the simple bench you might find out in your garden area. This type can be made of metal, wood or a combination of the two. For this reason, it is highly suggested that you look into getting a bench cushion for this one. Actually, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get one for your storage bench as well. If you have both, maybe you can just store the bench cushion in the storage bench when not in use. Then, when you want to, you can pick which bench has the most common points of interest for you at the moment – sun, shade, distance from your current position to the beverage station. Hey, these are important things to consider when we are talking about patio living done right!
Of course, there are just those innovative thinkers who would make an outdoor storage bench into a cooler in one easy afternoon. The first rudimentary model didn’t take much, of course it didn’t hold the temperature much either.
If you use this as a garden bench, then you can get double duty from this piece of outdoor furniture. There are many styles that look great and work perfectly outdoors. A cedar storage bench is a nice complement to most outdoor patios. Not only will it look great new, but as it weathers, it takes on a nice silvery gray color. The longer you have your bench, the more you will appreciate its usefulness.
