Looking at Laser vs Traditional Liposuction

There are some significant differences between laser liposuction and traditional liposuction surgery. The principle of removing unwanted body fat but suctioning it out of the body hasn’t changed but the technique and tools have. During laser lypo, the fat cells are liquefied with a laser guided through a fiber optic which literally melts the fat. A cannula is used to remove the fat by suctioning it out of the body. This is a much gentler form of instant fat removal since it is able to target small areas and leave the surrounding tissue relatively unharmed. This makes recovery a much more pleasant experience for the patient.

There is also some difference in liposuction prices depending on the type of technique involved. With laser liposuction, the treatment is usually at a much smaller scale and therefore requires less time. It is usually an outpatient procedure so there is a significant cost savings from not having to take up a hospital bed. The amount of anesthesia required is also a money saver because most laser lipo patients only require local anesthesia. It reduces the anesthesia related risks as well as surgical risks since the patient is awake during the surgery and can communicate any unusual discomfort to the surgeon immediately. The administration of the drug is also cheaper since small doses can be safely administered with merely the presence of an anesthesiologist in the facility instead of the anesthesiologist performing the actual administration.

The cost of the facility and equipment also makes a difference in the cost comparison because laser liposuction is a relatively new technique and requires the special laser machines. These cost the clinics a lot of money to acquire which they will look to recapture their expense by charging a fee to every patient. After many patients the equipment cost is recovered and that fee often will drop significantly.
