Is Copper Repiping a DIY Project?

I think one of the most important things that you can learn about home improvement is when something is a DIY project, and when something simply isn’t. For instance, if you are having plumbing issues you might be wondering about copper plumbing. No matter which DIY project you want to tackle here are some easy guidelines to figure out whether it’s a DIY project or not.

Does the project require special tools? Sure, for any project you need some tools. However, when you watch a lot of design shows it can really make you think they can do an entire bathroom or kitchen over on a budget. However, they are using a budget for the decor. They aren’t telling us what they are spending on labor because each show usually has their own handyman. However, they also have their own tools. You want to make sure that you aren’t spending so much money on the actual materials and tools that it would come close to the price of having someone do it for you.

Did someone have to go to school or apprentice for years and years to learn this? If so, it’s unlikely that you’re going to be unable to accomplish it in a weekend. There are a lot of ways that you can mess up your plumbing and electrical work that can come back to haunt you.

You may not know all of the building codes. For instance, if you did something wrong and then put up the drywall, then you have to take it all out again, which can be quite expensive. You need to make sure that you’re familiar with all of the building codes and all of the nuances of your project before you ever start it. Not everything in relation to your home interior is going to be a DIY project. Sometimes the stress and even possible injury that can occur from these projects is just not worth it. You can always save money in other areas of your home.
