It’s always the question one has to ask oneself when deciding whether or not to buy a new item or tool for your home. In this case we are going to consider the hand juicer and whether it is really a good investment of your money or if it is just another gimmick that will sit in the back of your kitchen cupboard and collect dust.
To begin with, hand juicers have been around for much longer than electric juicers, so that is a good benefit of this kind of juicer. Rather than getting something whose technology has only been around in recent times, a hand juicer is still based on the mechanical premises of centuries.
Basically a hand juicer is a simple machine with an auger that is connected to a crank which is attached to a handle. The casing for this mechanism has one chute molded into it for the fruit or vegetables or wheat grass to be fed into, one hole out the other end to let out the pulp, and underneath a hole that lets the juice drain out.
A hand juicer will never let you down if the power goes out. That is because electricity is not required to run this juicer. All it takes is for someone to turn the crank handle and any fruit or vegetables, or wheat grass or even pine needles, can be juiced effectively, safely and quickly without plugging it into a power socket.
If you are concerned about the cost then look at how quickly it will pay itself off. It can cost about $100 for a really good quality hand juicer that will last you your whole lifetime. A bought glass of freshly squeezed juice can set you back anywhere from $5 to $9. If you were to buy fresh juice daily, you would potentially be paying off your juice in a matter of a couple of weeks.
Fresh juice is the best for us – preferably made just before drinking. What do you think – good investment, or just another gimmick? We vote “good investment”.
