The Geo Metro was designed to be a fuel efficient economy car. So they used small 3 cylinder engines. The XFi models were designed to be the most fuel efficient, clocking in at 55 mpg. To get that efficiency, they had to sacrifice some horsepower, so the XFi models have the weakest engines. The base model Metro sported a slightly stronger engine, but was deigned to be a basic, inexpensive car. If you wanted a fancier Geo Metro, they had the LSi models, that had a slightly stronger engine and nicer interior.

The Geo Metro came in 3 door or a 5 door hatch back styles. You could get them in with a 5 speed manual transmission or a 3 speed automatic transmission. To try to spice things up, between 1990 and 1993, the LSi models had a convertible 2 door option as well.  While short lived, the Geo Metro convertible gained some notoriety as a fun, fuel efficient, sporty car.

In 1995 the Metro got an overhaul. First it got a stronger 4 cylinder engine, so the car had a little more get up and go, with only a little sacrifice to the overall gas mileage. The safety equipment was upgraded to add optional airbags and anti-lock brakes. The XFi models were discontinued, along with the 5 door hatchback and a 4 door sedan was added to the lineup. By 2000 the Chevy Metro line was winding down, and the Metro was only sold as a fleet vehicle.

With its long life and reliability there are still a large number of Metros on the road today. Since it’s fairly easy to find replacement Geo Metro parts, these vehicles will likely be around for a long time.

· Check the Freon level. Chances are your air conditioning unit should never need Freon filling or changing. If the Freon level is low t is indicative of a leak in the system. Most newer air conditioning systems have welded system connections, which minimize leaks. Older units that have flared fittings can develop leak caused by vibrations as a result of the units normal operation. These leaks should be repaired before adding new Freon. Low Freon levels can reduce the unit efficiency, freeze the evaporator coil or cause the compressor to overheat.

· Check all the electrical components, controls and connections.

· Clean the evaporator of dust, leaves and other foreign matter

· Also, remove any foreign matter from the condenser coils.

· Check the condenser operation.

· Make sure the area around the central unit is clear. The air conditioning unit needs to draw air into it to properly cool your house. If you have lawn furniture or other summer equipment stored near the central air unit it should be removed to insure proper operation of the air conditioner.

· Check to ensure that all access panels are in place and properly secured.

· Give the air conditioner a test run early in the season so if there are problems, you’ll be able to repair them before the weather becomes unbearable.

· Check the thermostat for proper operation and make sure it is set to the cool mode.

· Inspect the heat exchanger for cracks.

Before you begin to remove the mold, you will need to prepare the room in order to keep the spores from moving to other areas of the house. Place plastic over all doors or openings into the other part of the house to seal the room off. Leave a door or window to the outside open. Place a large fan in the opening to draw the contaminated air to the outside.

Place two tablespoons of Clorox in a 1 quart spray bottle, and fill the bottle the rest of the way up with water. Spray the areas where the mold is before you make an attempt to remove it. Let it set for five minutes. Spray it again before you begin to wash it.

Use a rag with soap to scrub it off. Scrub a large area around where the mold could be seen. Mold spores are microscopic and last for a long time. They can remain dormant for several months or even years.

Put any mold and rags with mold into heavy duty trash bags. Do not carry them through the house and run the risk of spreading the mold to other areas. Take them straight out through the open door or window.
