A facelift, also technically known as a rhytidectomy (derived from the Greek word rhutis, meaning wrinkle + -ectomy to cut) is a plastic surgery procedure that tightens up skin on the face that has gotten slack due to age and loss of skin elasticity. Incisions are made along the hairline. The skin is pulled up to where it is taut and then the excess skin is removed. The skin is then stitched back. The result is a face that is pulled tight with less wrinkles.
The facelift can greatly improve sagging jowls, cheeks and chin. There are different types of face lifts, some are more radical than others. The old style facelift would take weeks to recover from. The other factor was the recovery from the anesthesia. Nowadays, there are methods such as threading or a mini facelift. That is not as radical of a procedure. It is used to target specific areas that the patient wants to handle. By zeroing in on these areas, the surgeon can reposition them better and faster. The recovery time is considerably less.
Facelifts can be performed on people of various ages. Depending on your age, the condition of your skin and other factors will determine what kind of procedure you will need. A mini facelift may be exactly what you need or you may need a radical change like a full facelift. The best way to determine your needs is to have a consultation with a licensed plastic surgeon. They can tell you exactly what will work best for you and what kind of results to expect.
You can check them out through your state board to see if there have been any complaints. Also, you can find out from your friends who they used. Word-of-mouth can sometimes be the best way to find what you’re looking for.
