The digital camera as it is known today has travelled a long road. It was first made possible by inventors who came up with the charge-coupled device popularly know as the CCD. It dates back to the late 60s where at the Bell labs; a creation to change forever the face of photography was launched. The rest of this article gives you a glimpse of the digital photography history.
The inventors behind this invention went by the names of George Smith and Willard Boyle. Their mission became what is today the very essence of digital photography which is the CCD or charge-coupled devise. However, as they began, theirs was a mission to create a much needed semiconductor memory for computers at that time. They were also looking to create a solid-state camera for video phones.
History states that within an hour, the two experts were able to outline all their objectives and produce the fabric that was later incorporated in the camera to birth digital photography. They were able to deliver to the world the first solid-state video camera. The year in which this took place was 1970 and their work had managed to pay off. The next five years were spent in perfecting and studying this invention which was later launched to the world and to the public. Through the charge-coupled device, things that were impossible previously were at hand and everything was possible to form the foundation of digital photography.
Later in 1981, the Sony Corporation showed its prowess and launched the first digital camera that was a prototype. To perfect images and produce good results, the prototype used 2 CCD chips. This way, it is easy to capture images in disk for the first time in clarity and ease. At that time, a single disk could hold 25 images. Later big companies like Kodak and Logitech swept over as they produced digital cameras with excellent technology or consumers. A lot has changed and digital photography has exceeded expectations in the over 30 years that went into creating it. However, more is still to come because history has not yet been concluded.
