Many couples that are having trouble becoming pregnant naturally try different things. One of the things that people have been attempting recently is acupuncture.
Can acupuncture really help marriage partners to become pregnant? It can if a couple of studies, one in the U.S. and the other in Germany, can be believed.
One study in the U.S. where 51% of the women who received acupuncture treatments with their in-vitro fertilization treatments became pregnant, while only 36% of those without acupuncture treatments became pregnant. In the German in-vitro fertilization study (consisting of 160 women) – half were given acupuncture and half were not. Of the ones that received acupuncture, 30 became pregnant. Of the women who did not receive acupuncture, only 21 became pregnant.
On the other hand, there have been no studies linking acupuncture and fertility herbs with fertility in men. Thus far, the only treatments available to men are the standard ones that have been around for a while – some which are quite simple to solve.
For example, sometimes men who have been diagnosed as being infertile are really experiencing temporary infertility caused by environmental or lifestyle factors. For example, heat destroys sperm. Men who spend a lot of time in the hot tub or sauna may be sabotaging their efforts to get their partner pregnant. It’s also believed that men who wear briefs that are too tight may also be damaging their conception efforts. The recommended “cure” in both cases is simple. Spend less time taking hot baths and in the hot tub and switch to wearing loose fitting briefs or boxers.
The truth is that there is no one simple cure for infertility. There are an seemingly infinite number of reasons why a couple can’t conceive. A good doctor will examine both the man and the woman for fertility issues and develop a plan based on his findings.
