During the times of the Greek and the Roman culture, ankle length shoes essentially created a T shaped pattern on the feet. These were flat variety and made of sturdy material. The primary use of the shoes was during the times of war. It should be noted that in earlier times these shoes were predominantly worn by men, the contemporary version of the shoes are primarily worn by women, although these are available for men too. As against the traditional variety, the modern ones come in different patterns, heels and are made up of many materials other than leather. Snake prints and floral patterns are the most popular patterns in these shoes today, as well as patterns of beads, studs, braids, jeweled and gems are very popular today.
