I have recently reviewed several machines that potentially qualify as portable printer scanners. These machines include the Canon BJC-55, Canon BJC-80, Canon BJC-85, and to a lesser extent, the Epson Artisan 710 Color Inkjet. If you absolutely need a portable machine that is capable of only printing and scanning, then check out the Canon models listed above. If you’re looking for a higher quality machine that can be transported once in a while, consider the Epson Artisan 710. You might be wondering why someone would buy a portable printer and a portable scanner. The primary reason is convenience. While it might cost more, these machines are so small that you can put one in each coat pocket. Also, while the Canon models above might qualify as portable printer scanners, you still have to pay extra for the scanning function. That being the case, the price difference isn’t very large. Plus, based on size, it will actually be easier to travel with two separate machines than one. The portable scanner I’m going to briefly review here is the Iriscan 2.
The Iriscan 2 has a USB port. Scan resolution can reach as 600 dots per inch. The dimensions are 10.8 x 8.4 x 4.7 inches. A bigger selling point is that it only weighs 11.7 ounces. There are several features for the Iriscan 2. One is Readiris Pro 11. This will allow you to scan and covert documents into text that you can edit and search. There is also a photo editing suite, business card recognition, and automatic translation of documents. To expand on the last feature mentioned, the Iriscan 2 supports 124 languages. This makes it the perfect portable scanner for anyone involved with international business.
The Iriscan 2 has the following windows requirements: Pentium 300 MHz, 128MB Ram, 65MB of free disk space, and a CD-Rom drive. It’s PC and Mac-compatible.
